Rupert Blackman

Rupert Blackman is an English singer and songwriter, living in The Netherlands.

Before making the move abroad, Rupert was very much a part of the London music scene, he built quite a following, regularly gigged tracks from his debut EP “Safe and Sound” as well as providing a number of live performances for BBC radio.

He moved to the Netherlands in early 2008 and made the decision to develop his sound further, namely by no longer working as a solo artist.

Nowadays, Rupert is joined on record and stage by a fixed band; Jan Schröder on guitar, Kees Dijkstra on bass and Simon Böing-Messing on drums. Their addition, alongside the further energy, colour, and personal influences that they bring, ensures that Rupert’s songs now sit more comfortably upon the “pop” shelf, whilst staying true to his “singer/songwriter” roots.

Since his arrival to The Netherlands, Rupert’s music has been featured on the national radio stations Radio 2 and 3fm. He has won a handful of songwriting contests and been the featured artist on Ongekendtalent.nl. He has supported the Dutch band “Valerius” on their 2010 Promo tour and was recently invited by Anouk’s management to perform as her supporting act at all 8 shows of her 2010 winter theatre tour, after she personally spotted him performing live in Amsterdam.

Rupert and the band are just putting the finishing touches to their new EP “Save The Day”, to be released in time for their 23-show tour of Germany in July/August 2010, organised by the German label “Songs and Whispers”.
